Under Cover Produce - Click to See What We Have!

Well, after last week's torrential rains on Friday, I finally bit the bullet and asked my in-laws if I could use a part of their carport to set up in. They of course said yes because they love me! I thought about setting up in the yard again today, but in the carport I don't have to chase the shade and that sounds good to me.

This week we have: red and white sweet candy onions, cabbage, tomatoes, kohlrabi, kale, chard, black berries,  zucchini, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, egg plant, new potatoes, green beans, carrots, peas (yes, it's July 30th and we are picking peas), jams and jellies, cilantro, basil, dill, sage, tarragon, oregano, parsley, thyme... there's always something I've forgotten. We have a few ears of shucked sweet corn today. Tomorrow we will have lots more sweet corn and some really good mini cantaloupes that have almost paper thin rinds. Friday we should have peaches, bigger cantaloupe and watermelon.

Stop by the farm from 9-1 today through Friday or by the Painted Corners on 96 across from the Pink in Lomax from 3-7 today through Friday and on Saturday from 9-2 or at the Burlington market in Crapo Park Thursday evening from 5-7 or at the Keokuk mall Saturday morning from 7-11.

 Directions to the farm:
Go to the Nauvoo-Colusa Jr. High. Turn east on the Colusa Road. Go ½ mile. Turn north on county road 1050 E. Go ¾ mile. The Whitson compound is on the east side – a white house and a single wide trailer. We are in the trailer. Grampa Tom's folks are in the white house :)

This Weeks Goodies!

We're running a little late here today folks! It was so hot yesterday that I thought it would be better just to pick this morning and if anyone wanted something I didn't have yet, I'd just go out and pick it while they waited.

There's still a few things we need to get out there yet, but here's the line up: peaches, watermelon, cantaloupe, tomatoes, onions, zucchini, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, new potatoes, green beans, kohlrabi, radishes carrots, cilantro, basil, dill, sage, tarragon, oregano, parsley, thyme... there's always something I've forgotten ... oh yeah! Peas! Can you believe it? It's the 23rd of July and we are picking peas! We'll have sweet corn this evening.

We're open at the farm Wednesday through Friday from 9am -1pm. At the Painted Corners in Lomax from 3-7 Wednesday through Friday and on Saturday morning from 9-2. We also go to the Burlington market on Thursday evening and to the Keokuk market on Saturday mornings.

The Art and Needlework Shop in Nauvoo, IL

This is where I've been spending my Monday afternoons this summer. The owner of this unassuming looking little shop is my neighbor, Mary Lou. Her family and my husband's family have been neighbors for 5 generations.

You will find the kind of things here that you'd expect from the name, but there's so much more!

You'll find lots of Nauvoo souvenirs.

Hair hats

Ready made pioneer clothing

Lots of pretty dolls

more stuff you'd expect to see in an art and needlework shop

There's a selection of basic Avon items and you can order from the Avon book here.

Need a pillow tie for that traveling man of yours?

T-shirts or bonnets?

Kids toys?
It's also the only place in town where you can buy sweats. She made a ton of money when it was cold in July for the Pagent.

I'm tired of loading pictures! No way I could give you an inventory of what all is here.Truth is, behind this tiny looking shop front there are 3 very full rooms in which you can get lost. I've been working here all summer and I'm still discovering things! Mary Lou and her husband Jock have spent DECADES going to auctions and garage sales buying and collecting. There's jewelery, ready made quilts, antiques ... You name it, it is probably here.  So, if you're in town, stop by, tell Mary Lou, "Hi", and have fun exploring this awesome little Nauvoo treasure.

God Bless You All!

Market News

Don't look to bad do I? Yesterday I had WAY to much fun in the sun. I didn't bring the tent because  it was rainy and very windy when I left. Then it turned off sunny and hot. I should have had Grampa Tom bring in the canopy. Fortunately I was selling my extra aloe, so I was snapping off a leaf every now and then and rubbing it on my face neck and arms. Last night, I was feeling so crispy that I wasn't sure if I'd be able to have Julie Marie massage my neck and arms today, but I did one more aloe rub before I went to bed and this morning, my skin is touchable!

BTW, Julie Marie is the massage therapist in Nauvoo. When I first started going to her a little over a year ago, I was having problems holding on to a pencil. She has helped me so much! If you want an appointment call her at 319-572-7767.

I had a great time yesterday reconnecting with all our wonderful Nauvoo customers! I had planned to go home at 4, but I was having so much fun, I stayed till 5:30.

Thursday, we went to Burlington and had our best opening night ever! So many wonderful interesting people, including this lady:

I love doing farmers' markets! We have lots of lettuce, kale, chard, radishes, onions, peppermint, thyme, fennel, lambs quarters, parsley and Italian parsley, sage, rosemary, oregano and aloe. We will be at the Port in Burlington next Thursday from 5pm - 7:30pm and in Nauvoo at the Sinclair Station from 10am to at least 4pm on Friday. The Keokuk market doesn't start until the 19th.

See you there!

God Bless You All!
