The Illinois Department of Public Health is trying to tighten up the rules on raw milk sales. The proposed regulations would make that an impossibility for us! It would cost roughly $20,000 just to be legal! There's no way we could ever sell enough milk to even think about doing this!
The thing is, there has not been one case of food borne illness attributed to raw milk sales in Illinois since at least 1999! Tell me, how many people have contracted food poisoning from meat butchered by state inspected slaughter plants in that time? or children who've been abuse by state licensed schools or day cares?
It is absolutely LUDICROUS to even consider giving Big Brother more control over something that private citizens have been proven to do better than him!
If you are from Illinois, please:
Email Molly Lamb, the Division Chief of IDPH's Division of Food, Drugs and Dairies; tell her that IDPH should leave the law the way it is and not issue a regulation on raw milk. Ms. Lamb's email address is molly.lamb@illinois.gov
Also contact your state senator and representative and let them know how you feel about this power grab by IDPH.
And if you can, please attend this meeting:
The committee will finish drafting the proposed regulation; the meeting is open to the public. Please make plans to attend.

Where: Illinois Farm Bureau Building
